“Moving forward with Arab sustainable energy plans and League of Arab States (LAS) interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency topics, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS) organizes the fourth edition of the Arab Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency forum. This year the forum address a new theme “Sustainable Energy: Investment – Employment – Technology”. This emphasizes LAS’s belief in the importance of promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency projects especially with the region’s promising opportunities such as solar energy capacities that should be exploited. Currently, the global investment in renewable energy projects and its technologies is no longer a luxury, but economic and environmental pressing need.
The adoption of UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals of 2030 by world leaders and the dedication of the 7th goal to “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” represent the start of a new era. This era is distinguished with countries around the world revising their strategies and paying greater attention to the future of the next generations. Furthermore, we now look at sustainable energy topic not only from a political perspective but from a humanitarian side as well.
In an attempt to keep up with sustainable energy transition movement we are currently witnessing, the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity has amended its main organizational structure by an expert committee for renewable energy and energy efficiency. The committee is responsible for following-up on renewable energy topics, as well as energy production and consumption efficiency. This comes in accordance with the region development heritage and place in the world’s energy market. Accordingly, energy sector development represents a promising opportunity to address challenges we may face working on Arab citizens living standards enhancement. This development is as a part of the comprehensive regional sustainable development process.
