Eng, Jamila Matar , Director of Energy department – LAS
holds a B.Sc. in “Electrical Engineering” from Kuwait University and a Masters degree of Economics from the American University of Cairo. She is currently the director of the Energy Department in the League of Arab States (LAS).
Her previous positions include Managing the Electric Network Section in the Ministry of Electricity and Water of the United Arab Emirates.
Ms. Matar has been prominently involved in the development of the Energy sector in LAS. For the past 13 years, she has headed several committees and working groups, aiming at:
Coordinating Arab policies on integrated planning of energy and expectations of future needs.
Setting priorities for action programs in accordance with the global developments in this area.
Enhancing capacity-building in the Arab countries in the areas of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Promotion of joint projects in electricity interconnection.
Ms. Matar is also responsible of representing the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity and contributes to ensuring the achievement of its objectives.
